Screening for phosphate deficiency tolerance and expression of phosphate uptake genes in Nigerian local rice landraces

نویسندگان

چکیده

Twenty-one Nigerian rice landraces were screened for tolerance to phosphate deficiency in nutrient medium using selected morphological indices from which Phosphate Deficiency Tolerance Index (PDTI) was evaluated. All analyzed the presence of four uptake 1 (Pup-1) gene-linked markers while relative expression levels two Pup-1 genes evaluated under zero, normal and excess phosphate. PDTI analysis grouped into negative, low positive or high categories depending on whether performance at zero P better than P, comparable less respectively. However, irrespective grouping, each landrace had least one gene marker. Under Phillipine showed no superior OsPupK05-1 OsPupK04-1 despite belonging negative group. Thus, PDTI-based characterization not completely consonant with genes, suggesting a possible influence other tolerant genes. combination PDTI, root shoot traits possession 3 Pup Dantala Mass, Ankulyan, Variety 44 may be regarded as landraces.   Key words: Oryza sativa, index, RT-PCR,

A constitutive expressed phosphate transporter, OsPht1;1, modulates phosphate uptake and translocation in phosphate-replete rice.

A number of phosphate (Pi) starvation- or mycorrhiza-regulated Pi transporters belonging to the Pht1 family have been functionally characterized in several plant species, whereas functions of the Pi transporters that are not regulated by changes in Pi supply are lacking. In this study, we show that rice (Oryza sativa) Pht1;1 (OsPT1), one of the 13 Pht1 Pi transporters in rice, was expressed abu...

Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency in Nigerian Children

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is the most common human enzymopathy and in Sub-Saharan Africa, is a significant cause of infection- and drug-induced hemolysis and neonatal jaundice. Our goals were to determine the prevalence of G6PD deficiency among Nigerian children of different ethnic backgrounds and to identify predictors of G6PD deficiency by analyzing vital signs and h...

Identification of sources for drought tolerance in local bread wheat landraces

In order to identify drought tolerant germplasm, 97 bread wheat landraces, mostly Iranian genotypes, were evaluated in two separate experiments of normal and drought stress conditions in the field of Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center of Varamin. The experiments were performed in lattice statistical design with three replications. Drought conditions in the stress experiment was e...

Neonatal screening for glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency: sex distribution.

Eight hundred and six newborn infants at high risk for glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency were screened; 30.2% of the boys and 10.4% of the girls had severe G-6-PD deficiency. Surprisingly, 14% of the enzyme deficient girls had a father from a low risk ethnic group. Girls of high risk mothers should be screened for G-6-PD deficiency regardless of paternal origin.

Phosphate Uptake by Phosphate-Starved Euglena

Phosphate participates in an essential way in a number of cell functions, including glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, and nucleic acid synthesis. In almost all the cell types studied, the entry of phosphate seems to be controlled at the cell surface (1). In yeast, in which phosphate can be transported against a concentration gradient, the accumulation of phosphate depends on glycolysis and...
